Exhibition on Hermann Meier in Solothurn
Kunstmuseum Solothurn 28 October 2017 to 4 February 2018
The Solothurn Art Museum is showing a large number of compositional charts and musical manuscripts from the Paul Sacher Foundation's Hermann Meier Collection. The exhibition is held in the museum’s Graphics Gallery under the title
Mondrian-Musik
Die graphischen Welten des Komponisten Hermann Meier
In the 1950s this Solothurn composer abandoned the familiar techniques of the avant-garde and created imaginary "Mondrian Music" using large compositional charts to produce a musical "architecture of rectangular surfaces." Though rarely performed during his lifetime, today Meier is recognized as a major figure of the Swiss avant-garde.
An exhibition presented by the Kunstmuseum Solothurn in cooperation with the Paul Sacher Foundation Basel and the Hochschule der Künste Bern. Curated by Michelle Ziegler.
On the occasion of this exhibition, Chronos in Zurich published a like-named volume of essays and numerous color illustrations, edited by Heidy Zimmermann, Michelle Ziegler, and Roman Brotbeck. Click here for the Chronos website.
