Basel Chamber Orchestra
This archive contains performance material and detailed documentary material from the Basel Chamber Orchestra (Basler Kammerorchester, BKO). Founded by Paul Sacher as long ago as 1926, the ensemble gave a great many concerts of early and contemporary music before disbanding in 1987. Many of Sacher's commissioned works were written specifically for and premièred by the BKO, including Béla Bartók's "Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta," Igor Stravinsky's "Concerto en ré," and works by Berio, Britten, Casella, Fortner, Halffter, Henze, Holliger, Honegger, Krenek, Martinů, and others.
